Where we came from

Image

In 1968, options for education and employment of individuals with disabilities were few and far between.

So, two mothers from Ogden teamed up to provide an education for their daughters that were born with significant disabilities. Once these girls had finished school, the mothers discovered that there was no place for their daughters to go during the day to use their education. Faced with this dilemma, the mothers decided to change the focus of EnableUtah to become an employment support center that provided those with disabilities a place to work and earn wages. Today, EnableUtah supports over 200 individuals with disabilities and provides employment training and community employment opportunities.

EnableUtah has been known by many in the community as Weber Vocational Workshop, then Enable Industries before being rebranded EnableUtah in 2010.

Where we are today

The shift to community-based employment.

Our participants love the sense of community they get by coming to EnableUtah to work  in our Day Training Program. They work on light assembly, packaging, and quality control contracts, learning job skills while earning a paycheck. However, a growing number of individuals with disabilities have aspirations to work on-site at local businesses in the community. For these people, we have a team of dedicated job coaches to help make their dreams a reality. We believe in the right of all people to progress into community based employment if they choose.

Where we're headed

A new home for a new future.

EnableUtah has built a brand new facility that is custom suited to the needs of the individuals we serve. Our new building provides better opportunities and a more inspiring environment for EnableUtah participants.

The new EnableUtah building is in the new Exchange Business Park off of B Avenue in Ogden. This provides better community inclusion for our workers at EnableUtah. We neighbor other community oriented businesses like Roosters Brewing Co. and ENVE Composites. Our new site features natural lighting, better accessibility, and proximity to nature trails. It is also be the first time that all EnableUtah programs are housed under one roof, giving participants flexibility between programs.
